Narrative:

Runway 19-01 closed by NOTAM which I knew. Awaiting takeoff from runway 23 a tailwind was filling cabin with jet exhaust. Aircraft ahead of me taxied onto runway 23 and made his unicom call and unicom advised wind at 130-150 degrees at 7-9 KTS. I immediately realized it was favoring runway 19, so made my call for runway 19 takeoff. After takeoff unicom told me that the runway was closed. At no time was anyone in danger. The runway was closed because of a fly-in and the south end was used for parking along the sides. I was airborne in 1500' and passed over the parked aircraft area (sides of runway) well over 500' AGL. At uncontrolled airports I feel that when airports are closed they should put cones or X's on the ends. Unicom could have had the courtesy to inform me. I had the NOTAM for the closure, but the exhaust fumes and unicom call for winds caused my memory to override the NOTAM knowledge.

Title: CHARTER SMT TKOF FROM CLOSED RWY.

Narrative: RWY 19-01 CLOSED BY NOTAM WHICH I KNEW. AWAITING TKOF FROM RWY 23 A TAILWIND WAS FILLING CABIN WITH JET EXHAUST. ACFT AHEAD OF ME TAXIED ONTO RWY 23 AND MADE HIS UNICOM CALL AND UNICOM ADVISED WIND AT 130-150 DEGS AT 7-9 KTS. I IMMEDIATELY REALIZED IT WAS FAVORING RWY 19, SO MADE MY CALL FOR RWY 19 TKOF. AFTER TKOF UNICOM TOLD ME THAT THE RWY WAS CLOSED. AT NO TIME WAS ANYONE IN DANGER. THE RWY WAS CLOSED BECAUSE OF A FLY-IN AND THE S END WAS USED FOR PARKING ALONG THE SIDES. I WAS AIRBORNE IN 1500' AND PASSED OVER THE PARKED ACFT AREA (SIDES OF RWY) WELL OVER 500' AGL. AT UNCONTROLLED ARPTS I FEEL THAT WHEN ARPTS ARE CLOSED THEY SHOULD PUT CONES OR X'S ON THE ENDS. UNICOM COULD HAVE HAD THE COURTESY TO INFORM ME. I HAD THE NOTAM FOR THE CLOSURE, BUT THE EXHAUST FUMES AND UNICOM CALL FOR WINDS CAUSED MY MEMORY TO OVERRIDE THE NOTAM KNOWLEDGE.
