Narrative:

Purpose of flight was to ferry aircraft to avionics shop at whiteman to install new radios and transponder. These items were stolen. Communication was via an old radio. Bur tower requested a holding pattern south of the airport. This was misinterpreted by pilot as clearance to pass through air traffic area. Pilot stated problems with radio at initial contact. Problem could have been avoided by simply clearing flight through airspace instead of holding.

Narrative: PURPOSE OF FLT WAS TO FERRY ACFT TO AVIONICS SHOP AT WHITEMAN TO INSTALL NEW RADIOS AND XPONDER. THESE ITEMS WERE STOLEN. COM WAS VIA AN OLD RADIO. BUR TWR REQUESTED A HOLDING PATTERN S OF THE ARPT. THIS WAS MISINTERPRETED BY PLT AS CLRNC TO PASS THROUGH ATA. PLT STATED PROBS WITH RADIO AT INITIAL CONTACT. PROB COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED BY SIMPLY CLRING FLT THROUGH AIRSPACE INSTEAD OF HOLDING.
