Narrative:

During cruise flight; I noticed the smell of fuel. A visual inspection found fuel leaking from the right tank at the wing root. I immediately proceeded direct to the nearest airport and contacted approach to [inform them of my predicament]. Approximately 10 minutes from [the alternate airport]; I notified approach I would be shutting off the electrical system for safety reasons.after an uneventful touchdown; I called approach on the phone to notify them I had landed safely and was off the aircraft.
