Narrative:

During the descent oak cleared us to fly a heading to intercept the oak 151 degree right, intercept at or above 16000'. Cleared the profile descent, cross skunk at 250 KTS. I then went off frequency to call ATIS, company, and give the final PA to the passengers. During the PA announcement the captain asked me about the clearance. I thought we were between anjee and skunk, so my reply was cross skunk between 10000' and 12000' at 250 KTS. About 5 mi later oak asked our DME from oak. By the time we could respond we were at 55 DME and 13500'. Oak stated that we were supposed to have xed anjee at or above 16000'. Oak made no further comment. The captain stated he thought that oak had cleared us to intercept at or above 16000' and then down to cross skunk between 10000' and 12000' at 250 KTS. Due to myself being off the radio with other cockpit duties my attention was diverted from monitoring the clearance. I have almost had this happen before because the way the clearance is given is very confusing and it is a very busy time in a two man cockpit.

Title: ACR MLG ALT DEVIATION OVERSHOT DURING BIG SUR PROFILE DESCENT INTO SFO.

Narrative: DURING THE DSNT OAK CLRED US TO FLY A HDG TO INTERCEPT THE OAK 151 DEG R, INTERCEPT AT OR ABOVE 16000'. CLRED THE PROFILE DSNT, CROSS SKUNK AT 250 KTS. I THEN WENT OFF FREQ TO CALL ATIS, COMPANY, AND GIVE THE FINAL PA TO THE PAXS. DURING THE PA ANNOUNCEMENT THE CAPT ASKED ME ABOUT THE CLRNC. I THOUGHT WE WERE BTWN ANJEE AND SKUNK, SO MY REPLY WAS CROSS SKUNK BTWN 10000' AND 12000' AT 250 KTS. THE CAPT STATED HE THOUGHT THAT OAK HAD CLRED US TO INTERCEPT AT OR ABOVE 16000' AND THEN DOWN TO CROSS SKUNK BTWN 10000' AND 12000' AT 250 KTS. DUE TO MYSELF BEING OFF THE RADIO WITH OTHER COCKPIT DUTIES MY ATTN WAS DIVERTED FROM MONITORING THE CLRNC. I HAVE ALMOST HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE BECAUSE THE WAY THE CLRNC IS GIVEN IS VERY CONFUSING AND IT IS A VERY BUSY TIME IN A TWO MAN COCKPIT.
