Narrative:

ATIS contained notice that taxiway 'G' was closed. This was first flight of the morning and the first flight out of mdt (harrisburg) airport for both myself and the first officer. Our aircraft was parked facing into a building, with no txwys in sight. I located myself on the airport diagram by using our present position in relation to the buildings depicted on the diagram. While taxiing out, ground informed us that we had used 'G' taxiway. 'G' is two sides of a triangle and appears to be part of the ramp. I don't believe that there are any signs marking it. I had mislocated our parked position because the present terminal is not shown on the diagram, while the older, large hangar complex is shown. Airport diagram also shows the location of a control tower, but there are now two towers, with one being part of the new terminal complex. I think that chart needs to update their diagram to prevent any future confusion. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information. Neither myself or the first officer was very alert or we would not have used the wrong taxiway. Tower controller was also asleep or he would have seen us proceeding to taxiway G. I momentarily forgot the ATIS warning that taxiway G was closed.

Title: FLT CREW OF COMMUTER TRANSGRESSED CLOSED TXWY G AT MDT ARPT.

Narrative: ATIS CONTAINED NOTICE THAT TXWY 'G' WAS CLOSED. THIS WAS FIRST FLT OF THE MORNING AND THE FIRST FLT OUT OF MDT (HARRISBURG) ARPT FOR BOTH MYSELF AND THE FO. OUR ACFT WAS PARKED FACING INTO A BUILDING, WITH NO TXWYS IN SIGHT. I LOCATED MYSELF ON THE ARPT DIAGRAM BY USING OUR PRESENT POS IN RELATION TO THE BUILDINGS DEPICTED ON THE DIAGRAM. WHILE TAXIING OUT, GND INFORMED US THAT WE HAD USED 'G' TXWY. 'G' IS TWO SIDES OF A TRIANGLE AND APPEARS TO BE PART OF THE RAMP. I DON'T BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE ANY SIGNS MARKING IT. I HAD MISLOCATED OUR PARKED POS BECAUSE THE PRESENT TERMINAL IS NOT SHOWN ON THE DIAGRAM, WHILE THE OLDER, LARGE HANGAR COMPLEX IS SHOWN. ARPT DIAGRAM ALSO SHOWS THE LOCATION OF A CTL TWR, BUT THERE ARE NOW TWO TWRS, WITH ONE BEING PART OF THE NEW TERMINAL COMPLEX. I THINK THAT CHART NEEDS TO UPDATE THEIR DIAGRAM TO PREVENT ANY FUTURE CONFUSION. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO. NEITHER MYSELF OR THE FO WAS VERY ALERT OR WE WOULD NOT HAVE USED THE WRONG TXWY. TWR CTLR WAS ALSO ASLEEP OR HE WOULD HAVE SEEN US PROCEEDING TO TXWY G. I MOMENTARILY FORGOT THE ATIS WARNING THAT TXWY G WAS CLOSED.
