Narrative:

I was VFR flight following from sat to dfw. Fort worth center handed me off to regional approach. On initial contact I was told to remain east of dfw and remain clear of the TCA at 2500'. I was also given a code to squawk. I understood the clearance to mean that I was my discretion to 2500' and to stay east of the field. I did not hear approach tell me stay clear of the TCA the first call. I also took it for granted that I was cleared in the surrounding airspace because of the squawk code I was given. I maintained 3500' and continued my course to the airport. A few moments later the approach controller alerted me that I had entered the TCA and to immediately descend to 2500'. I acknowledged the controller and immediately descended to 2500'. Nothing else was said about it. I should not have taken for granted that I was cleared into the TCA because he gave me a squawk code. I also feel that he should have made me confirm that he wanted me to stay clear of the TCA. Callback conversation with revealed the following information. Reporter corrected the report text in that controller said 'remain west of the airport' instead of east. Reporter has heard nothing from the FAA regarding the incident and does not believe that enforcement action will be taken.

Title: SMT ATX Y, INBND TO A TCA TERMINAL FLYING VFR, RECIEVES A SQUAWK CODE AND ENTERS TCA THINKING HE WAS CLEARED IN.

Narrative: I WAS VFR FLT FOLLOWING FROM SAT TO DFW. FORT WORTH CTR HANDED ME OFF TO REGIONAL APCH. ON INITIAL CONTACT I WAS TOLD TO REMAIN E OF DFW AND REMAIN CLR OF THE TCA AT 2500'. I WAS ALSO GIVEN A CODE TO SQUAWK. I UNDERSTOOD THE CLRNC TO MEAN THAT I WAS MY DISCRETION TO 2500' AND TO STAY E OF THE FIELD. I DID NOT HEAR APCH TELL ME STAY CLR OF THE TCA THE FIRST CALL. I ALSO TOOK IT FOR GRANTED THAT I WAS CLRED IN THE SURROUNDING AIRSPACE BECAUSE OF THE SQUAWK CODE I WAS GIVEN. I MAINTAINED 3500' AND CONTINUED MY COURSE TO THE ARPT. A FEW MOMENTS LATER THE APCH CTLR ALERTED ME THAT I HAD ENTERED THE TCA AND TO IMMEDIATELY DSND TO 2500'. I ACKNOWLEDGED THE CTLR AND IMMEDIATELY DSNDED TO 2500'. NOTHING ELSE WAS SAID ABOUT IT. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN FOR GRANTED THAT I WAS CLRED INTO THE TCA BECAUSE HE GAVE ME A SQUAWK CODE. I ALSO FEEL THAT HE SHOULD HAVE MADE ME CONFIRM THAT HE WANTED ME TO STAY CLR OF THE TCA. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO. RPTR CORRECTED THE RPT TEXT IN THAT CTLR SAID 'REMAIN W OF THE ARPT' INSTEAD OF E. RPTR HAS HEARD NOTHING FROM THE FAA REGARDING THE INCIDENT AND DOES NOT BELIEVE THAT ENFORCEMENT ACTION WILL BE TAKEN.
