Narrative:

Clt departure, climbing through 16000' atlanta asked our airspeed, the copilot said we were doing 290 KTS. The controller then asked if we were on the hornet one departure. We answered that we were. He then wanted to know why we were doing 290 KTS, we did not answer and he said normal speed. At that time I realized we had exceeded the speed restriction on the SID. I feel that there should be multiple sids at clt and not try to put all departures on one page. All restrictions should be in bold type as well as on the route depiction. Surely, departures can be sequenced west/O restrictions all the way to third segment climb.

Title: FLT CREW OF MLG EXCEEDED SPEED LIMITATION ON CLT SID.

Narrative: CLT DEP, CLBING THROUGH 16000' ATLANTA ASKED OUR AIRSPD, THE COPLT SAID WE WERE DOING 290 KTS. THE CTLR THEN ASKED IF WE WERE ON THE HORNET ONE DEP. WE ANSWERED THAT WE WERE. HE THEN WANTED TO KNOW WHY WE WERE DOING 290 KTS, WE DID NOT ANSWER AND HE SAID NORMAL SPD. AT THAT TIME I REALIZED WE HAD EXCEEDED THE SPD RESTRICTION ON THE SID. I FEEL THAT THERE SHOULD BE MULTIPLE SIDS AT CLT AND NOT TRY TO PUT ALL DEPS ON ONE PAGE. ALL RESTRICTIONS SHOULD BE IN BOLD TYPE AS WELL AS ON THE RTE DEPICTION. SURELY, DEPS CAN BE SEQUENCED W/O RESTRICTIONS ALL THE WAY TO THIRD SEGMENT CLB.
