Narrative:

On climb out of den between FL360-370 aircraft encountered severe wake turbulence from an MD11 at FL390. They experienced an abrupt roll estimated greater than 30 degrees. The autopilot was disengaged; and the captain commanded full right deflection; in addition to some downward nose deflection to gain airspeed to get the aircraft to respond. No crew or passengers were injured; though both pilots and flight attendants reported being shaken. Pilots were done for the day; but at least one flight attendant elected to finish her day at [their destination] from being so shaken.
