Narrative:

My partner and I did a formation fly-by for 55 third grade students as a demonstration. I have been flying professional air shows for 9 yrs. We departed runway 30 using a left-hand pattern, did a straight and level formation pass over runway 30 with smoke on. Then we made an intrail pass with smoke on using a left-hand pattern and landed. The demonstration was strictly non-aerobatic. All was done in accordance to current FARS. We autographed pictures for all of the students and teachers and departed runway 30, made a left-hand turn and departed for home. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: after return to base (sioux falls, sd) reporter received call from FAA GADO remonstration their failure to notify FAA about the demonstration flight which had been observed by FSS. Reporter has filed written report to GADO and has heard nothing since. Reporter feels strongly that young FSS specialist involved overreacted to a minor infraction, just a technicality.
