During an intentional spin; the co-pilot seat departed from the seat rail; causing the instructor pilot (ip) to fall backwards. The pilot under instruction (pui) executed proper spin recovery procedures without ip assistance and ip sat up and forced chair to floor using own weight. Crew proceeded directly to [home airport] for a full stop. No emergency was declared; as crew determined the seat malfunction did not appreciably affect the pilot's ability to land.aircraft used for utility-category maneuvers could have a reinforced seat mechanism to ensure stability.
