Narrative:

Problem arose due to my being used to seeing many aircraft and being able to work them all out (can do attitude). During middle of 'push' I realized I bit off more than I could chew. I needed to climb an medium large transport up over a slower moving small transport. Issued climb to the medium large transport with an 'expedite through 12000'.' the medium large transport was at 10000', the small transport was at 11000', moving wbound. The medium large transport on northbound heading wasn't climbing fast enough. Neither aircraft could obtain visual separation and I had to issue a northeast bound heading to the medium large transport for diverging course separation. Because of this action I don't believe a 'deal' occurred, but it was too close and a very sloppy operation.

Title: LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION OCCURRED WHEN ONE ACFT WAS ISSUED CLRNC TO CLIMB THROUGH THE ALT OF THE OTHER ACFT.

Narrative: PROBLEM AROSE DUE TO MY BEING USED TO SEEING MANY ACFT AND BEING ABLE TO WORK THEM ALL OUT (CAN DO ATTITUDE). DURING MIDDLE OF 'PUSH' I REALIZED I BIT OFF MORE THAN I COULD CHEW. I NEEDED TO CLIMB AN MLG UP OVER A SLOWER MOVING SMT. ISSUED CLIMB TO THE MLG WITH AN 'EXPEDITE THROUGH 12000'.' THE MLG WAS AT 10000', THE SMT WAS AT 11000', MOVING WBOUND. THE MLG ON NBOUND HDG WASN'T CLIMBING FAST ENOUGH. NEITHER ACFT COULD OBTAIN VISUAL SEPARATION AND I HAD TO ISSUE A NE BOUND HDG TO THE MLG FOR DIVERGING COURSE SEPARATION. BECAUSE OF THIS ACTION I DON'T BELIEVE A 'DEAL' OCCURRED, BUT IT WAS TOO CLOSE AND A VERY SLOPPY OPERATION.
