Narrative:

Enroute to rod; ATC instructed us to amend our clearance: direct to klyne then direct to djb and then filed route. I entered kline as the cleared to fix and it appeared on the FMS as reasonable slight turn left of 20 degrees approximately 40 NM ahead. The first officer agreed and I executed the turn. After a few moments ATC asked if we were proceeding to klyne at which time I reentered fix as klyne and saw that it was same relative distance from our original position but instead was approximately 20 degrees right turn. We made the correction with no further issues. No traffic conflict occurred. Due to the close proximity of these two identically pronounced fixes; it would be advised that one of the two fixes should be renamed.
