Narrative:

After engine start and starting to taxi we had a red flight director FD box and red magnetic on the captain side. We pulled off to the runup area before runway xy. The captain called maintenance and they advised to shut down completely and restart. After doing that all annunciations were clear and we taxied to the runway. No issues during initial takeoff and climb out. During the continued climb the captain's sdu went black for a few min and then came back on. After that it went out again and my status display unit (sdu)went black and started back up again. The left sdu seemed to stay black and the right side was continuing to go on and off. We decided to return back to ZZZ with the unreliable sdus and unknown if the issue with the magnetic on the left side would return. We asked ATC to return. When sent back to approach they asked for souls and fuel on board. No issues on the return back; landing was normal.
