Narrative:

Prior to push back the flight attendant attempted to arm the 1R door but the indication in the cockpit showed red. I asked her to re-cycle the arming lever; and once she did the door turn green on the mfd. We pushed back; and departed. On climbout; we received a door fwd serv open warning message. After coordination with dispatch and maintenance; it was decided to return to the departure field. We were ferrying fuel and decided to land overweight instead of holding with a potentially unsecured door. Due to the overweight landing; a write up in the aml was made for the warning message and the overweight landing. Maintenance found broken glass at the bottom of the door upon arrival.
