Narrative:
We were being pushed back from the gate (tail into the alley); and we came to a sudden stop. I assumed it was a bolt that sheared off from the tow bar. I was convinced more so when the tug driver removed himself from the tug and walked to the nose wheel. I was then informed by the ramp agent via the intercom that the aircraft was pushed into a fuel truck and the lower portion of the winglet (aircraft right) was damaged. I asked the ramp agent to pull us back to the gate which he did. I contacted maintenance to meet me on the ramp to survey the damage.
