Narrative:

I am a traffic reporter and a pilot for a local radio station. I picked up a report of an accident on my police scanner. As I always do, I flew to the accident scene to find out the situation in order to report it on the radio. By reporting the accident over the radio, I am able to help route traffic away from the scene. I was not a sightseer. I provide the public with a useful service. While I was in the middle of my broadcast, I looked out my side window to see a tn highway patrol helicopter. I was so startled to see how close he was to me that I could not finish my broadcast. Upon seeing the helicopter I realized that I was not wanted in this area of the accident scene. I immediately turned around and left. I never returned to the accident scene for the remainder of the day. Upon landing, I called the tn highway patrol and was informed about the accident, being an explosive (from what I was told liquid hydrogen) tanker truck, and that the airspace was named temporarily restr. I had no idea that the FAA had set up temporary restr airspace. I never flew inside the perimeter that the emergency vehicles had blocked off on the ground. I fly out of an uncontrolled airport in nashville (john tune airport). If the FAA set up this temporary restr airspace, why did they not take the time to inform john tune airport, so that all pilots flying out of this airport could be informed over the unicom. The only problem in this whole incident in my opinion was the helicopter flying too close to my plane.

Narrative: I AM A TFC RPTR AND A PLT FOR A LCL RADIO STATION. I PICKED UP A RPT OF AN ACCIDENT ON MY POLICE SCANNER. AS I ALWAYS DO, I FLEW TO THE ACCIDENT SCENE TO FIND OUT THE SITUATION IN ORDER TO RPT IT ON THE RADIO. BY RPTING THE ACCIDENT OVER THE RADIO, I AM ABLE TO HELP RTE TFC AWAY FROM THE SCENE. I WAS NOT A SIGHTSEER. I PROVIDE THE PUBLIC WITH A USEFUL SVC. WHILE I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF MY BROADCAST, I LOOKED OUT MY SIDE WINDOW TO SEE A TN HWY PATROL HELI. I WAS SO STARTLED TO SEE HOW CLOSE HE WAS TO ME THAT I COULD NOT FINISH MY BROADCAST. UPON SEEING THE HELI I REALIZED THAT I WAS NOT WANTED IN THIS AREA OF THE ACCIDENT SCENE. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED AROUND AND LEFT. I NEVER RETURNED TO THE ACCIDENT SCENE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY. UPON LNDG, I CALLED THE TN HWY PATROL AND WAS INFORMED ABOUT THE ACCIDENT, BEING AN EXPLOSIVE (FROM WHAT I WAS TOLD LIQUID HYDROGEN) TANKER TRUCK, AND THAT THE AIRSPACE WAS NAMED TEMPORARILY RESTR. I HAD NO IDEA THAT THE FAA HAD SET UP TEMPORARY RESTR AIRSPACE. I NEVER FLEW INSIDE THE PERIMETER THAT THE EMER VEHICLES HAD BLOCKED OFF ON THE GND. I FLY OUT OF AN UNCONTROLLED ARPT IN NASHVILLE (JOHN TUNE ARPT). IF THE FAA SET UP THIS TEMPORARY RESTR AIRSPACE, WHY DID THEY NOT TAKE THE TIME TO INFORM JOHN TUNE ARPT, SO THAT ALL PLTS FLYING OUT OF THIS ARPT COULD BE INFORMED OVER THE UNICOM. THE ONLY PROB IN THIS WHOLE INCIDENT IN MY OPINION WAS THE HELI FLYING TOO CLOSE TO MY PLANE.
