Narrative:

I was #4 sitting at 2R; when the captain announced that the flight attendant sitting at 2R come to the cockpit to be briefed. I was told the 'locking mechanism indicator' is not working; and I was not to leave that door until we reached 10;000 ft. I asked if he was joking; and he said no; I asked the first officer and he confirmed it was not working. The captain demonstrated; with his arms spread out; to keep everyone away from that door; except me. I asked 'wasn't this a no go item'; and he said 'no; we'll take it to [destination] and they'll give it to [the next] crew to fly and they can deal with it.' 'good news'; he said; 'we won't have to fly it back.' I asked for volunteers to seat swap; and of course nobody wanted anywhere near that door. I went back to the captain and asked him again; telling him I was very uncomfortable 'guarding' a door with a problem. I give 100% to [the company]; and I expect this company to give it back to me. I did not feel safe. I've seen a lot after flying 40 years; but this was absurd.[company] keeps deferring planes; and sending us out with placard stickers everywhere. In addition to being unsafe; it is embarrassing. Fix problems; instead of deferring to keep crippled planes in the air. The passengers notice how patched together our planes are. Needless to say; our pride in [the company] is not there anymore by everyone. I took myself off of this crippled plane because I did not feel safe. I worked a flight that night that was understaffed instead.
