Narrative:

Initial clearance was to 1000 feet which was not the same as the SID. ATC then gave aircraft unrestricted climb to 14000 feet. Around 12500 [feet] captain queried about traffic 5 miles ahead. ATC said he wouldn't be a factor. Captain queried again and controller stated he could clear aircraft to another fix. Captain accepted at which time crew received a TA. Once in the turn TA disappeared.this is a recurring problem in salt lake. They modify the SID and then we get a traffic conflict. Calls to our company a major carrier reach deaf ears.
