Narrative:

Inadvertently used 123.45 MHZ for air-to-air communications with another aircraft. Thought appropriate frequency until told otherwise. Need for better understanding of frequencys which can or cannot be used for air-to-air communications. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: reporter stated that frequency used, 123.45, was reserved for missile research by a southern california firm. He also said that he was on an IFR flight plan rather than VFR as shown on his report.

Narrative: INADVERTENTLY USED 123.45 MHZ FOR AIR-TO-AIR COMS WITH ANOTHER ACFT. THOUGHT APPROPRIATE FREQ UNTIL TOLD OTHERWISE. NEED FOR BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF FREQS WHICH CAN OR CANNOT BE USED FOR AIR-TO-AIR COMS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH REPORTER REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: REPORTER STATED THAT FREQ USED, 123.45, WAS RESERVED FOR MISSILE RESEARCH BY A SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FIRM. HE ALSO SAID THAT HE WAS ON AN IFR FLT PLAN RATHER THAN VFR AS SHOWN ON HIS REPORT.
