Narrative:

The event was a revenue flight to ZZZ. There was no alternate and planned arrival fuel was 5.3. The weather was forecast to be VFR. The flight down was uneventful and we briefed a visual approach with a localizer backup. The ATIS said the field had scattered clouds and good visibility. While on downwind we saw a low deck east of the field; and approach control transmitted the last couple of aircraft who landed reported the ceiling between 500'-900' broken. The field was actually clear but the clouds were on the approach path. We quickly briefed the remainder of the localizer approach and set the derived decision altitude (dda).during the approach; another carrier flight called missed approach and stated it wasn't even close to breaking out. We flew the localizer as briefed and executed a missed approach after failing to pick up the field. Our fuel at the missed approach was 5.6. I decided to head north toward ZZZ1 and ZZZ2 for a divert. My concern with staying at ZZZ revolved around how soon (if at all) they would turn the field around. If we delayed at all and the field was not turned around or went below mins due to the fog rolling in from the east; we would not have the fuel to divert. We climbed to 10;000'; declared min fuel; and headed north. We contacted dispatch to coordinate a divert location and settled on ZZZ2 with their concurrence. The divert was uneventful and we accomplished an idle descent from 10;000' to base position; landing with 3.6. The taxi in was uneventful. We refueled and flew to ZZZ landing about two hours late.

Title: A Boeing 737 crew reported deteriorating weather conditions while on final approach. Unable to acquire the runway at approach minimums the crew elected to perform a missed approach and successfully diverted to a suitable alternate airport.
