Narrative:

The flight attendant called and spoke to the captain about a noise coming from the aircraft. The captain told me; 'you have the flight deck. Lock the door behind me.' I initially presumed the flight attendant would come to the flight deck; but then figured that the captain wished for her to physically show him where the sound was coming from since he was up immediately.I locked the door behind him and concentrated on flying the aircraft. The captain called me via interphone about two minutes later and was allowed back into the flight deck. He informed me that the situation was in no way serious and said it likely was caused by an environmental control system (ecs) tubing conduit located behind a panel. The flight proceeded without incident.lack of communication was the root cause of this event. I recognized that the flight attendant usually comes up front when a pilot leaves the cockpit; but thought the captain needed to see and discuss the issue in person with the flight attendant. The plan wasn't really discussed.better communication would have allowed us to better discuss the plan.
