Narrative:

My student and I were practicing the NDB 10 approach at laf. We tracked to earle LOM, turned outbnd, reported earle outbnd, executed the procedure turn and reported joining the final approach course inbound. We were instructed to remain VFR by approach and report in the vicinity of earle inbound to the tower. No traffic advisories were given to us. We maintained 2300' while attempting 4 times to report in the vicinity of earle and proceeded inbound. We maintained 2000' MSL. Finally 3 mi from the airport we heard traffic reporting a left base to runway 10. Next we reported a 2 mi final for 10 while scanning for traffic. We noticed traffic approximately 500' below us. Tower then advised us to maintain our altitude or higher and continue straight ahead and that the citation was below us. We climbed and due to additional traffic, made a right turn to exit the air traffic area. We were then told that our xmissions were weak and nearly unreadable. We exited the air traffic area.

Narrative: MY STUDENT AND I WERE PRACTICING THE NDB 10 APCH AT LAF. WE TRACKED TO EARLE LOM, TURNED OUTBND, REPORTED EARLE OUTBND, EXECUTED THE PROC TURN AND REPORTED JOINING THE FINAL APCH COURSE INBND. WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO REMAIN VFR BY APCH AND REPORT IN THE VICINITY OF EARLE INBND TO THE TWR. NO TFC ADVISORIES WERE GIVEN TO US. WE MAINTAINED 2300' WHILE ATTEMPTING 4 TIMES TO REPORT IN THE VICINITY OF EARLE AND PROCEEDED INBND. WE MAINTAINED 2000' MSL. FINALLY 3 MI FROM THE ARPT WE HEARD TFC REPORTING A LEFT BASE TO RWY 10. NEXT WE REPORTED A 2 MI FINAL FOR 10 WHILE SCANNING FOR TFC. WE NOTICED TFC APPROX 500' BELOW US. TWR THEN ADVISED US TO MAINTAIN OUR ALT OR HIGHER AND CONTINUE STRAIGHT AHEAD AND THAT THE CITATION WAS BELOW US. WE CLIMBED AND DUE TO ADDITIONAL TFC, MADE A RIGHT TURN TO EXIT THE ATA. WE WERE THEN TOLD THAT OUR XMISSIONS WERE WEAK AND NEARLY UNREADABLE. WE EXITED THE ATA.
