Narrative:

Upon landing runway 17L; I was instructed to exit the runway at golf and contact ground on 121.8 upon exiting the runway. I exited the runway; came to a complete stop and contacted ground control; the controller gave me taxi instructions to take a left on foxtrot to echo to the ramp. I was unable to see the sign for 'F' due to the tall grass around the sign; therefore; I slowly taxied ahead to make a left on what appeared to be the taxiway; the controller asked me to stop at which time I realized the nose of my aircraft was on the black and yellow runway markings depicted on the asphalt. Prior to any further movement; I requested permission to make a 180 degree turn; permission was granted. Upon making my turn the ground controller asked if I could see the taxiway sign. I informed her that it was grown-up in grass and very difficult to see. Obviously the event had me rattled given that I am very careful and [cautious] when operating any aircraft. The ground controller advised that I should mention the excessive growth to the lineman. Continuing north on 'F'; I took a right on 'east' proceeding beyond the hold short line for runway 17L. My recollection of the instruction was 'F' to 'east' to the ramp. My attention was focused on finding the proper routing to the ramp for parking.upon analysis of the airport diagram and recounting the instruction given; I realize a hold on 'east' was in order. I elected to contact the ground controller to acknowledge the oversight on my part and explain what I saw and did not see. The controller informed me that grass cutting duties to the extent that runways had to be closed for the exercise; however; trimming around signs had not taken place; only a tractor work. I expressed my apologies and now having become more familiar with the close proximity of the taxiway to 17R; I assured the controller it would not happen again. Contributing factors were my unfamiliarity of the close proximity of the taxiway to the runway and the poorly maintained/overgrown grass around all taxiway signs.

Title: A pilot reported landing his single engine low wing aircraft on DWH Runway 17L. After exiting at Taxiway G he was instructed to taxi left on F. Tall grass obscured the Taxiway F sign. The pilot incurred Runway 17R; but stopped on the runway threshold markings for further ATC instructions.

The Ground Controller advised that I should mention the excessive growth to the Lineman. Continuing north on 'F'; I took a right on 'E' proceeding beyond the hold short line for Runway 17L. My recollection of the instruction was 'F' to 'E' to the Ramp. My attention was focused on finding the proper routing to the Ramp for parking.Upon analysis of the Airport Diagram and recounting the instruction given; I realize a Hold on 'E' was in order.
