Narrative:

We departed rdu as ccdc. Reported to rdu departure radar, were given a vector and told to maintain 4000. Approximately 2 mins later were cleared to climb to 9000. Climbing through 7500 we were asked to verify our clearance. We were then told that there was a flight ccfc on the frequency. ATC noted that this was the cause of the confusion and told us continue. Factors: more diligence by ATC and crews.
