Narrative:
APU pneumatic inoperative. Started #1 engine at gate. Pushed back and cleared to start #2 engine. Received clearance from smf tower ground control for x-bleed start of #2 engine. After start of #2 engine, used normal break-away thrust and taxied to runway 16R for takeoff. On arrival ont, was requested to call operations at smf. On our departure from smf we had blown a ladder into an aircraft at adjacent gate, causing slight damage to a VHF antenna on aircraft and a resulting 10 min delay. Corrective action: aircraft should be towed to ramp area between taxiway south and T. Abeam gate 37 for start.
