Narrative:

While cruising southbound at FL310 we noticed an aircraft at our 12 o'clock position climbing to our altitude. When the aircraft was 500 feet below us and still on a direct intercept course the controller gave us an immediate turn to 270. I instructed my first officer (first officer) to disconnect the autopilot and to immediately turn. The controller then repeated his instructions and I was able to respond 'in the turn now' at which time I turned on all lights. At this point we received an RA to 'climb climb now' [and] we initiated a climbing turn. I then noticed an aircraft at our 1 o'clock position 1000 feet above our altitude. We were just clearing the original contact and I instructed my first officer to descend and turn back on course. I advised ATC of the RA and our return back on course and altitude. We did not have an RA or TA for the second aircraft. During the event we departed our original course by 45 degrees and our altitude by 300-400 feet before returning back on course and altitude.

Title: B737 Captain reported altitude and track deviations resulted from their compliance with an RA warning related to an airborne conflict.
