Narrative:

During power back from gate, aircraft main gear departed paved surface of ramp area approximately 15' before forward thrust application arrested rearward motion. A radio conversation via VHF frequency between crew and operations ascertained that 1) excursion may have occurred (we had not been aware of it until now). 2) there had been no damage observed. Crew elected to continue taxi and takeoff normally.
