Narrative:

Tower and ground controller were on a common frequency. After my run-up and pretkof checklist, I was cleared to taxi into position and hold while I was on ground frequency. I did this, and after I was in position on the runway I changed to tower frequency. At that time, tower told me that I did not have a clearance to be on the runway. There is a possibility that the clearance was taken away as I was changing frequencys, but I did not acknowledge this change of clearance. Twin turbo on short final had to do a go around as a result. My suggestions as to how this should be corrected is to go to separate frequencys as traffic vol increases. Supplemental information from acn 137367: small aircraft was told by tower to taxi into position and hold. Pilot said there would be a short delay. Tower acknowledged. After delay small aircraft taxied onto runway, call tower and said ready for takeoff.

Title: SMA TAXIED INTO POSITION CAUSING A LNDG ACFT TO GO AROUND.

Narrative: TWR AND GND CTLR WERE ON A COMMON FREQ. AFTER MY RUN-UP AND PRETKOF CHKLIST, I WAS CLRED TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD WHILE I WAS ON GND FREQ. I DID THIS, AND AFTER I WAS IN POS ON THE RWY I CHANGED TO TWR FREQ. AT THAT TIME, TWR TOLD ME THAT I DID NOT HAVE A CLRNC TO BE ON THE RWY. THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE CLRNC WAS TAKEN AWAY AS I WAS CHANGING FREQS, BUT I DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THIS CHANGE OF CLRNC. TWIN TURBO ON SHORT FINAL HAD TO DO A GAR AS A RESULT. MY SUGGESTIONS AS TO HOW THIS SHOULD BE CORRECTED IS TO GO TO SEPARATE FREQS AS TFC VOL INCREASES. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 137367: SMA WAS TOLD BY TWR TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD. PLT SAID THERE WOULD BE A SHORT DELAY. TWR ACKNOWLEDGED. AFTER DELAY SMA TAXIED ONTO RWY, CALL TWR AND SAID READY FOR TKOF.
