Narrative:

Coming from the east on Eagul6 arrival; to 26. After passing bassl intersection; the approach controller asked if we had runway 26 in sight. It was hazy with the heat of 41 C degrees and sun going down. I told the first officer to tell them 'negative' since neither of us had it in sight and I did not want to be released from their guidance for traffic separation in the haze. The controller gave us a heading to intercept the localizer then instructions to 'maintain 3000 ft until prunn; cleared for the ILS 26.' we heard the controller clear a B737 for visual to 25L. I had the autopilot and autothrottles on and we were intercepting the localizer for runway 26 when we got an RA saying 'climb; climb now' and displayed the red indication on the display. I could see from my peripheral vision the B737 coming right at us from the left at our same altitude. I immediately put in right rudder; and right aileron while simultaneously pitching up and increasing power to climb. The first officer got on the radio and told the controller that we have an RA and are responding. He said he could see the other jet's underside as they aggressively rolled back to the left. After we were 'clear of conflict' and they were staying to the left side; I was slightly concerned that we may have to go around if I could not get re-stabilized by the 1000 ft gate but we were able to do so and we landed without further issue.
