Narrative:

After takeoff at mbs and after having contacted and received a clearance from saginaw departure, saginaw stated there had been numerous reports of icing in the clouds as we were climbing through 3000' MSL. The climb out to the assigned altitude was continued based on the following: 1) we were not aware of any reports of icing on departure from mbs. 2) the surface temperature was 43 degrees F, giving a calculated freezing level of approximately 3700' MSL. 3) tops were reported as 4000/4500' (actual tops 4000'). Only a trace of rime ice was encountered in the climb.
