Narrative:

Cleared for takeoff. Instructed to 'turn left 200 at the shoreline, maintain 2000'. After takeoff, captain called for climb checklist. While I was adjusting power (item #2 on checklist), captain flew through 2000 to 2200 MSL and had began left turn to 200. I looked out right window and saw small aircraft on collision course, at our altitude, heading southeast along the shoreline. I took control of the aircraft, initiated a steep left turn, called for descent to 2000, and returned aircraft control to the captain. Minimum altitude for shoreline route is 2500. The small aircraft was too low. We were too high. I should have called out altitude to the captain when '1000 feet', '500 feet' away, and 'approaching' (per company operations manual). I was busy with the climb checklist and neglected the calls.

Narrative: CLRED FOR TKOF. INSTRUCTED TO 'TURN LEFT 200 AT THE SHORELINE, MAINTAIN 2000'. AFTER TKOF, CAPT CALLED FOR CLIMB CHECKLIST. WHILE I WAS ADJUSTING POWER (ITEM #2 ON CHECKLIST), CAPT FLEW THROUGH 2000 TO 2200 MSL AND HAD BEGAN LEFT TURN TO 200. I LOOKED OUT RIGHT WINDOW AND SAW SMA ON COLLISION COURSE, AT OUR ALT, HDG SE ALONG THE SHORELINE. I TOOK CONTROL OF THE ACFT, INITIATED A STEEP LEFT TURN, CALLED FOR DSCNT TO 2000, AND RETURNED ACFT CONTROL TO THE CAPT. MINIMUM ALT FOR SHORELINE ROUTE IS 2500. THE SMA WAS TOO LOW. WE WERE TOO HIGH. I SHOULD HAVE CALLED OUT ALT TO THE CAPT WHEN '1000 FEET', '500 FEET' AWAY, AND 'APCHING' (PER COMPANY OPS MANUAL). I WAS BUSY WITH THE CLIMB CHECKLIST AND NEGLECTED THE CALLS.
