Narrative:

I was the first officer. The ramp and runway were covered in ice/snow and it was hazardous to walk around the aircraft to perform my outside aircraft preflight duties. I slipped once on the ramp and caught myself one other time from falling. The runway braking action was reported as poor when we landed earlier; and conditions did not improve for this flight. I asked the captain which runway we would plan on using and for programming the FMC and he stated runway xx; which I imputed into the FMC. All checklists and taxi/ takeoff briefings were complete and we proceeded to start the aircraft and continue with the flight.as soon I contacted ground/tower that we were ready to taxi out of the ramp area we were told to use runway yy now for takeoff. I started to input the change into the FMC for the runway change and was busy with that task when the controller wanted to know if we could pass on some messages to two of the passengers. I thought the captain would pick up the communication with the controller as I was busy with reprogramming the FMC; but he did not so I stopped what I was doing with the FMC and communicated with the controller. His message was a lengthy one and I had to start writing everything down which took several minutes of my time. Meanwhile we are taxing to the active runway which is not that far away relatively speaking. My focus since the time we left the ramp until we were at the runway was inside because I was dealing with the changes and this controllers request writing down names and specific messages to be passed on.as I got caught up we were cleared for takeoff already and I my focus went back inside the plane to finish the before takeoff checklist; all while the captain was maneuvering the aircraft and turning from the taxiway into position for my takeoff. As I finished up the checklist the captain already had the aircraft in position and waiting for me. I put checklist away and he transferred control to me for my takeoff and I asked if everyone was ready and started the takeoff roll. This was my first time ever operating into and out of this airport. As a result; I am not familiar with all the details operational or procedurally in depth as some crewmembers who have been doing these runs into the same places for years. It is all new to me. I was a little nervous on this take off because of the runway ice and snow conditions. I have a lot of experience on icy runways from operating aircraft in alaska when I lived up there. So I knew no quick inputs or control changes. On takeoff roll I noticed what at first I thought was the centerline lights protruding above the ground and realized this does not seem right. About the same time I was thinking this the mechanic; also said what I was thinking and said it was the runway edge lights. I already started to correct and get over but did not want to put big inputs to correct because I was afraid we would spin out of control. I got over no problem and made the takeoff but realized we did hit a light or two. I also knew that we had limited runway with water at the end and a snow and ice covered runway with poor braking action to contend with in the event of an abort due to an emergency.as mentioned above it was after the fact and we were accelerating did I know the captain made an error in positioning the aircraft. I had no reason to suspect otherwise; since he was coming into here for twenty years. This was not his first flight coming off oe.
