Narrative:

On dnt into clt on frequency 125.35, we were given an altitude change from 6000 T 3600' and given headings to pick up the localizer 9111.7) to runway 36L. At 3600' we were told to contact the next frequency 119.0. The next controller advised us to intercept and maintain 4600' to the next intersection. We advised we would climb to 4600'. On the ground we called the tower to inquire (as approach is no place to inquire). At first we were told we were incorrect on the altitude, but that a tower supervisor was to review the tape and give his appraisal. I called back approximately X pm and talked with the supervisor. He stated a communication snafu was noted and that it would be dropped, and neither a pilot deviation nor anything else would be filed.

Narrative: ON DNT INTO CLT ON FREQ 125.35, WE WERE GIVEN AN ALT CHANGE FROM 6000 T 3600' AND GIVEN HDGS TO PICK UP THE LOC 9111.7) TO RWY 36L. AT 3600' WE WERE TOLD TO CONTACT THE NEXT FREQ 119.0. THE NEXT CTLR ADVISED US TO INTERCEPT AND MAINTAIN 4600' TO THE NEXT INTERSECTION. WE ADVISED WE WOULD CLB TO 4600'. ON THE GND WE CALLED THE TWR TO INQUIRE (AS APCH IS NO PLACE TO INQUIRE). AT FIRST WE WERE TOLD WE WERE INCORRECT ON THE ALT, BUT THAT A TWR SUPVR WAS TO REVIEW THE TAPE AND GIVE HIS APPRAISAL. I CALLED BACK APPROX X PM AND TALKED WITH THE SUPVR.
