Narrative:

While seated before pushback, I noticed the gate agents having difficulty with the entry door closing. I exited the cockpit and learned that the jetway had possibly come in contact with the door. I requested a mechanic inspect the door and door seal for airworthiness. The mechanic then spoke with the company maintenance people in pittsburgh, inspected the door and said it 'looks good, looks ok.' no maintenance was performed at this time. I then reentered the aircraft and conducted a normal pushback taxi for takeoff. While awaiting our turn for takeoff, the head F/a informed me that there was light visible from the lower door area. I requested that the first officer verify this, which he did. Thus, in the interest of safety, a return to the gate was accomplished whereupon further inspection noted a small dent in the outer lower left-hand corner. The mechanic was resummoned, the write-up was accomplished, the passenger were deplaned and a pressurization check was performed. A maintenance ferry to pit was accomplished at 17000', with the aircraft pressurizing normally throughout.
