Narrative:
Very busy traffic pattern at btl. Entered downwind and was told to follow PA44 turning base. Reported PA44 in sight. A clearance to extend downwind was issued directed towards me however a different aircraft responded to the clearance. Assuming the clearance was not for me at that point I continued as previously assigned. I ended up cutting off an aircraft on a straight in approach. Tower told me to turn back to the downwind at which time I turned into the inbound traffic. The other traffic saw me and maneuvered to avoid.
