Narrative:

I was plting government XXXX, an medium large transport training aircraft, for the xa landing WX recon flight. The purpose of the flight was to fly to all suitable runways at the edw AFB complex and relay information to mission control to determine if WX was suitable for an xa landing, and help determine runway selection. While flying at edw AFB, we normally have a clearance in complex 1 and 1C (R2515), and operate with flight following from edw sport control. I was asked to make approachs to lakebed runways 33 and 35. The setups for these runways (following the xa guidance flight path) take you to the south edge of complex 1C. While setting up the approach for 33 (or 35), I received a call from sport that I was approaching the south edge of the complex. I replied that I was aware that I was near the edge of the complex and was in the process of turning north to follow the guidance for the approach. I reached an altitude of approximately 20000' at the start of the approach. The next day I received a call from sport stating that I had actually departed the complex to the south by 1 NM, and that the FAA was filing a pilot deviation on me.

Narrative: I WAS PLTING GOV XXXX, AN MLG TRNING ACFT, FOR THE XA LNDG WX RECON FLT. WHILE SETTING UP THE APCH FOR 33 (OR 35), I RECEIVED A CALL FROM SPORT THAT I WAS APCHING THE S EDGE OF THE COMPLEX. I REPLIED THAT I WAS AWARE THAT I WAS NEAR THE EDGE OF THE COMPLEX AND WAS IN THE PROCESS OF TURNING N TO FOLLOW THE GUIDANCE FOR THE APCH. I REACHED AN ALT OF APPROX 20000' AT THE START OF THE APCH. THE NEXT DAY I RECEIVED A CALL FROM SPORT STATING THAT I HAD ACTUALLY DEPARTED THE COMPLEX TO THE S BY 1 NM, AND THAT THE FAA WAS FILING A PLTDEV ON ME.
