Narrative:

Flight attendant (flight attendant) called and stated smoke in cabin at 4;700 MSL. We then asked for a direct return to airport from ATC. We then executed the cabin fire smoke memory items and checklist. After donning oxygen mask. The suspected problem was the air conditioning. Both packs and bleeds were deselected. Briefed flight attendant who stated that the smoke was less but smell remained. We briefed the visual approach and landed. Fire and rescue looked aircraft over and gave us the go ahead to taxi to gate. I made a PA to passengers and the first officer called operations and told them the problem and asked for a gate to deplane. We did have to make an overweight landing no overweight inspection was needed due to landing being within tolerance. Maintenance MEL'd pack and continued flight.
