Narrative:

I belong to a flying club of 125 active members and approximately 8 instrs at 8i3, southwest of kokomo, in. A public and busy airport for a small grass field airport. We must use a right hand pattern on runway 18 and left hand on 36. We have several planes with no radios. I witnessed, on calm no wind days, 3 near misses this summer on the 'choice' of downwind leg. This situation is stupid and can be corrected by giving glendale left hand traffic on runway 18. There used to be a private field 1 mi to the east. In the year I have been flying there, I have never seen or heard of a plane taking off or landing there. For safety's sake, you must give glendale airport priority now. GI3 does not qualify as an airstrip (also because of lake at the runway).

Title: PLT COMPLAINT ABOUT TRAFFIC PATTERN AT A NON TWR ARPT. 8I3 REQUIRES ACFT TO STAY WEST OF THE ARPT FOR EITHER RWY 18 OR 36 BECAUSE A PRIVATE ARPT IS LOCATED 1 NM EAST OF 8I3. REPORTER SAYS PRIVATE ARPT IS NO LONGER IN USE, AND A LEFT HAND PATTERN SHOULD BE USED FOR BOTH RWYS TO RELIEVE TRAFFIC PROBLEMS ON DOWNWIND WHEN WIND IS CALM AND PLTS HAVE 'CHOICE' OF DOWNWIND DIRECTION.
