Narrative:

I was in the local FBO office when a gentleman entered and informed us that he had tried to arrange an urgent flight to bridgeport, ct, but was unable to reach atx pilot by telephone who is a 1-MAN single aircraft part 135 operator. Atx pilot does not staff an office at the airport and is at the airport only sporadically. Because of the apparent urgency of this person and concern to help him out, I contacted the FBO operator and asked if he would have an airplane and pilot to transport this person. FBO was unable to provide the service. It was after exhausting all options for this person that I informed him that I had planned to go flying and if he was willing to pay the aircraft operating expenses I would transport him. I short delay was required because the aircraft had to be deiced at a cost to me of $40.00. Just prior to leaving, atx pilot appeared at the FBO and I explained the circumstances. His response to my explanation was that he could take the person but that he didn't care either way. I then told him I would let the individual decide. The decision was made to ride with me because I stood to lose the money invested in the deice. In retrospect and considering my good intentions to help a person in need, I believe it was an error on my part to accept compensation. This is the first and last time I plan to take any form of compensation for such a service.

Title: REPORTER ACCEPTED ACFT OPERATING EXPENSES FROM A PASSENGER WHO WAS UNABLE TO ARRANGE OTHER FLT ACCOMMODATIONS. PLT HAS COMMERCIAL LICENSE AND INSTRUMENT RATING.

Narrative: I WAS IN THE LCL FBO OFFICE WHEN A GENTLEMAN ENTERED AND INFORMED US THAT HE HAD TRIED TO ARRANGE AN URGENT FLT TO BRIDGEPORT, CT, BUT WAS UNABLE TO REACH ATX PLT BY TELEPHONE WHO IS A 1-MAN SINGLE ACFT PART 135 OPERATOR. ATX PLT DOES NOT STAFF AN OFFICE AT THE ARPT AND IS AT THE ARPT ONLY SPORADICALLY. BECAUSE OF THE APPARENT URGENCY OF THIS PERSON AND CONCERN TO HELP HIM OUT, I CONTACTED THE FBO OPERATOR AND ASKED IF HE WOULD HAVE AN AIRPLANE AND PLT TO TRANSPORT THIS PERSON. FBO WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE THE SERVICE. IT WAS AFTER EXHAUSTING ALL OPTIONS FOR THIS PERSON THAT I INFORMED HIM THAT I HAD PLANNED TO GO FLYING AND IF HE WAS WILLING TO PAY THE ACFT OPERATING EXPENSES I WOULD TRANSPORT HIM. I SHORT DELAY WAS REQUIRED BECAUSE THE ACFT HAD TO BE DEICED AT A COST TO ME OF $40.00. JUST PRIOR TO LEAVING, ATX PLT APPEARED AT THE FBO AND I EXPLAINED THE CIRCUMSTANCES.
