Narrative:

After a particularly long seeming fts flight from chitose to hnl (with multi hour delay), I descended below 10,000' at greater than 250 KTS. I completed first officer training for the widebody transport in july. During august and september I was back on the large transport as first officer, then reserve widebody transport first officer in october. Flew phl-MHZ-fra and fra-phl with MHZ-fra being my leg. Then flew msp-cts and cts-hnl with cts-hnl being my second leg in the widebody transport since checking out. Also had to get 1 hour recency experience in the simulator. Hnl approach control caught my attention talking to another aircraft and stating they had departed after their void time. Several exchanges were made as to what the current time actually was, if they could have departed legally, etc. Seems there was a minute or so difference between the time pieces, but a lot of radio time consumed. We had been cleared via the brooke seven into hnl. We were descending in the upper teens/low twenties and ATC had asked for and got 320 KTS. I called for the approach check thru 15,000' per norm. One of the items is INS. On giving my response, I prematurely rerouted us. The aircraft was coupled at the time, so the mistake was noticed immediately via a heading change. I was busy trying to understand and correct what I'd done and we were given several 2000' incremental dscnts. I was back to hand flying. ATC requested normal speed in the low teens, so I started slowing back to 290 KTS. At this point, I was with the program, although feeling very hurried and trying to catch up from my INS slip. ATC told us then that we were 'cleared to hnl via the airway'. I didn't remember any airway from reviewing the brooke seven and began to pour over the STAR chart. There isn't an airway depicted on it. I was behind now and approaching 10,000' came suddenly, I initiated a level off, and in an attempt to be smooth, went below 10,000'. The descent was to between 9700' and 9800' with a speed of about 290 KTS. Time below 10,000' was approximately 30 seconds. ATC gave a frequency change as I was climbing back to 10,000', still trying to be smooth (ie, small inputs, slow recovery). Just before the captain switched the frequencys, I think the controller asked us, a little excitedly, our altitude. The captain switched and called the next controller. I asked, but neither of the other 2 guys had heard an altitude request for us. The approach and landing went normally after that.

Title: ALT DEVIATION OVERSHOOT ON DESCENT. SPEED DEVIATION EXCEEDED 250 KTS BELOW 10,000' ALT.

Narrative: AFTER A PARTICULARLY LONG SEEMING FTS FLT FROM CHITOSE TO HNL (WITH MULTI HOUR DELAY), I DESCENDED BELOW 10,000' AT GREATER THAN 250 KTS. I COMPLETED F/O TRAINING FOR THE WDB IN JULY. DURING AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER I WAS BACK ON THE LGT AS F/O, THEN RESERVE WDB F/O IN OCTOBER. FLEW PHL-MHZ-FRA AND FRA-PHL WITH MHZ-FRA BEING MY LEG. THEN FLEW MSP-CTS AND CTS-HNL WITH CTS-HNL BEING MY SECOND LEG IN THE WDB SINCE CHECKING OUT. ALSO HAD TO GET 1 HOUR RECENCY EXPERIENCE IN THE SIMULATOR. HNL APCH CTL CAUGHT MY ATTN TALKING TO ANOTHER ACFT AND STATING THEY HAD DEPARTED AFTER THEIR VOID TIME. WE HAD BEEN CLRED VIA THE BROOKE SEVEN INTO HNL. WE WERE DESCENDING IN THE UPPER TEENS/LOW TWENTIES AND ATC HAD ASKED FOR AND GOT 320 KTS. I CALLED FOR THE APCH CHECK THRU 15,000' PER NORM. ONE OF THE ITEMS IS INS. ON GIVING MY RESPONSE, I PREMATURELY REROUTED US. THE ACFT WAS COUPLED AT THE TIME, SO THE MISTAKE WAS NOTICED IMMEDIATELY VIA A HDG CHANGE. ATC TOLD US THEN THAT WE WERE 'CLRED TO HNL VIA THE AIRWAY'. I DIDN'T REMEMBER ANY AIRWAY FROM REVIEWING THE BROOKE SEVEN AND BEGAN TO POUR OVER THE STAR CHART. THERE ISN'T AN AIRWAY DEPICTED ON IT. I WAS BEHIND NOW AND APCHING 10,000' CAME SUDDENLY, I INITIATED A LEVEL OFF, AND IN AN ATTEMPT TO BE SMOOTH, WENT BELOW 10,000'. THE DSCNT WAS TO BETWEEN 9700' AND 9800' WITH A SPEED OF ABOUT 290 KTS. TIME BELOW 10,000' WAS APPROX 30 SECONDS. ATC GAVE A FREQ CHANGE AS I WAS CLIMBING BACK TO 10,000', STILL TRYING TO BE SMOOTH (IE, SMALL INPUTS, SLOW RECOVERY). JUST BEFORE THE CAPT SWITCHED THE FREQS, I THINK THE CTLR ASKED US, A LITTLE EXCITEDLY, OUR ALT. THE CAPT SWITCHED AND CALLED THE NEXT CTLR. I ASKED, BUT NEITHER OF THE OTHER 2 GUYS HAD HEARD AN ALT REQUEST FOR US. THE APCH AND LNDG WENT NORMALLY AFTER THAT.
