Narrative:

After the passengers left we started cleaning and preparing for our next flight. The cabin door had been closed to the pre-catch position. I needed to exit the aircraft and reached for the pre-catch lever to find that it was not there. Upon further inspection the lever was there; just not accessible.we picked the airplane up from [contract maintenance] aviation at ZZZ1 two days prior. They had painted the aircraft and looked like they replaced the tread on the door stairs. The lever was not routed properly on reassembly and was blocked by the cabin door stair frame preventing the lever from being actuated. Flight canceled.
