Narrative:

Flight crew flew SID for which we thought we had been cleared (sunol 4-SJC). First officer took clearance. I listened and thought I heard sunol 4 on clearance. First officer thought that the sunol 4 was the right SID--even the computerized flight plan had the sunol 4 on it and we thoroughly briefed the departure. The first officer did write down the clearance as the loupe 6-SJC, but we both became fixed on the sunol 4--possibly because of noise in cockpit, my suggestion that the sunol 4 would be our clearance, or the flight plan showing sunol 4. At any rate, we briefed and flew the sunol 4 SID, until vectored back to the loupe 6 by bay TRACON.
