Narrative:

Air carrier X (ont-stl) was cruising at FL330 on J134 west of butler VOR. ZKC came on the air and said 'air carrier X is cleared to FL240 pilots discretion after FL270'. Air carrier X answered 'air carrier X is cleared to FL240, pilots discretion after FL270'. I then started a 1000 FPM descent to FL240. At 32,500' MSL descending ZKC came back on and said 'air carrier X contact kansas city center on frequency and maintain 330.' we answered 'we are descending to FL240'. ZKC 'that clearance was not for you, it was for different company X and you are 600' low, climb back to 33,000' immediately and call when level FL330'. ZKC then said 'different company X did you get your clearance to FL240'. Different company X replied 'no. You gave that clearance to air carrier X'. Upon reaching 33,000' I called ZKC and asked if I should file a report on this and that we had answered the clearance including our call sign. ZKC, 'no, you did not get into anyone else's airspace and when you answered the clearance I did not hear the company'. Further note: same company came on frequency just as ZKC was telling us we were 600' low and should climb back to 33,000'. Captain on same company also confirms descent clearance to FL240 was given to us, not different company X.
