Narrative:

Descending into ord for a landing we were cleared via direct pappi, direct ord. We were cleared to cross 'story' intersection at 10,000'. While leveling at 10,000', center called us and asked us our altitude. The first officer told the controller 10,200' for 10,000'. We were then told to descend immediately to 9000' and to do so within 30 seconds. The controller then advised us that our clearance was to 11,000' only, and that we had traffic at 12 O'clock, 6 mi. We leveled at 9000' within seconds, and saw the traffic well ahead and above us.
