Narrative:

While enroute; I was on the sun side of aircraft. My ipad displayed a thermometer with message temperature too high and ceased operation. Ipad was in sun on window mounted holder sun side of aircraft for multiple hours. Electronic devices fail and this has been proven again. Removal of flight kits with paper charts and manuals is setting the stage for a major safety issue. We should not be relying on ipads for this information.
