Narrative:
Controller gave heading and altitude assignment of 110 degree and FL240 for direct esf (alexandria, la) flight # air carrier xx. We complied. At approximately xa am ZFW asked us to verify altitude. We responded 'FL240'. Center said we were told FL230. I said we were told heading 110 degree and FL240. I also had read this clearance back to the controller at the time of the initial assignment. After the incident I told the controller to mark the tape. I would really like to know what happened here.
