Narrative:

Descending from 10,000' VFR, 18 mi west of osu. 3 yr old son in right seat, asleep. At 4000', still high, still descending, son starts to scream. Call tower to request level off due to ear problems. Tower tells me to make low approach. Lost sight of airport at dusk in haze, and screaming son. Ended up at 3400' 2 mi south of osu. Tower asked where in the world was I and to contact columbus approach. Did so and he asked me what was the situation. He could hear my son so that confirmed my difficulty. The approach controller turned me back over to osu, and osu had me make a low approach at 2000', so now I have to descend fast again. But we did it. Then I was cleared to land, and I landed. Then the tower told me I did not have navigation lights on. Fortunately they did not ask me to call them. Son was able to clear his ears before landing and he is just fine.
