Narrative:

I was receiving a flight check ride from an inspector of the FAA in houston, tx. An airline flight information letter states that on all medium large transport type 1, after a power transfer, there should be a fire warning test. On the flight from charlotte to houston, tx, the FAA inspector stated this check was overlooked. He questioned me about this check and I had no idea what he was talking about. I was trained on the medium large transport, type 2. During my training this check was never addressed. This check is not on any of airline checklists or flight release papers. I feel my training on the medium large transport, type 2 by the airline was totally inadequate. Supplemental information from acn 115702: first officer report. Having not flown with the captain before I did not know he was not aware of the need to perform the fire test. He had only been flying the type 1 model for less than a month having come off the type 2 and said he was not told of the test either during training or once he was on the line. Since there is no place on the checklist to perform the test it has been my experience since the information letter was released for capts to perform the test at any time during taxi for takeoff. As a result I have on occasion been unaware that the test had been done if at the time I had been performing other duties. Sometimes the capts themselves forgot to do the test even though they were aware of it.

Narrative: I WAS RECEIVING A FLT CHECK RIDE FROM AN INSPECTOR OF THE FAA IN HOUSTON, TX. AN AIRLINE FLT INFO LETTER STATES THAT ON ALL MLG TYPE 1, AFTER A POWER TRANSFER, THERE SHOULD BE A FIRE WARNING TEST. ON THE FLT FROM CHARLOTTE TO HOUSTON, TX, THE FAA INSPECTOR STATED THIS CHECK WAS OVERLOOKED. HE QUESTIONED ME ABOUT THIS CHECK AND I HAD NO IDEA WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT. I WAS TRAINED ON THE MLG, TYPE 2. DURING MY TRAINING THIS CHECK WAS NEVER ADDRESSED. THIS CHECK IS NOT ON ANY OF AIRLINE CHECKLISTS OR FLT RELEASE PAPERS. I FEEL MY TRAINING ON THE MLG, TYPE 2 BY THE AIRLINE WAS TOTALLY INADEQUATE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM ACN 115702: F/O REPORT. HAVING NOT FLOWN WITH THE CAPT BEFORE I DID NOT KNOW HE WAS NOT AWARE OF THE NEED TO PERFORM THE FIRE TEST. HE HAD ONLY BEEN FLYING THE TYPE 1 MODEL FOR LESS THAN A MONTH HAVING COME OFF THE TYPE 2 AND SAID HE WAS NOT TOLD OF THE TEST EITHER DURING TRAINING OR ONCE HE WAS ON THE LINE. SINCE THERE IS NO PLACE ON THE CHECKLIST TO PERFORM THE TEST IT HAS BEEN MY EXPERIENCE SINCE THE INFO LETTER WAS RELEASED FOR CAPTS TO PERFORM THE TEST AT ANY TIME DURING TAXI FOR TKOF.
