Left deland, fl, en route to georgetown, bahamas. Requested IFR clearance from daytona approach controller advised maintain 3000'. Requested higher because of fuel flow. Flew at 3000' for several mins, then approach gave frequency change. Called new controller. He advised climb to 10000', gave eastbound turn. Request on course, he gave left turn back to the west. Said he was trying to call orl approach, but could not let us out of his airspace. Advised need higher. Said he could not give it. During conversation altitude bust occurred. Airplane went up to 10400'. Captain called orl approach. They gave turn to 180 degrees and higher. Never called daytona approach back.

FLEW AT 3000' FOR SEVERAL MINS, THEN APCH GAVE FREQ CHANGE. CALLED NEW CTLR. HE ADVISED CLB TO 10000', GAVE EBND TURN. REQUEST ON COURSE, HE GAVE LEFT TURN BACK TO THE W. SAID HE WAS TRYING TO CALL ORL APCH, BUT COULD NOT LET US OUT OF HIS AIRSPACE. ADVISED NEED HIGHER. SAID HE COULD NOT GIVE IT. DURING CONVERSATION ALT BUST OCCURRED. AIRPLANE WENT UP TO 10400'. CAPT CALLED ORL APCH. THEY GAVE TURN TO 180 DEGS AND HIGHER. NEVER CALLED DAYTONA APCH BACK.
