Narrative:

Max gw to and first officer was PF. Just after liftoff number 3 engine had a compressor stall and over-temp of 745 degrees (pw engine). Also; abnormal loud sound (thump) with gear retraction. Flew engine out profile; requested vectors straight out; declared mayday and ran engine 3 egt hi checklist and eng compressor stall checklist. Contacted dispatch; dumped 125;000 [pounds] of fuel and got vectors for the ILS. Had another abnormal sound during gear extension. Compressor stalls again on number 3 engine on final. Normal landing. Shut down engine 3 after clearing runway.
